Tigers
-One of the rarest forms of lycanthropes.
-There are only four clans of tigers within the United States. They all keep to themselves. Their culture is also divided about pure bloods, inherited lycanthropes, and attacked.
-Being given tiger lycanthropy is seen as a reward for a job well done. They think it is a sin to give it to someone not worthy. It’s against the law of any clan to bring someone over against their will.
-Tiger lycanthropy is one of the harder-to-catch strains. It is also one of the few that can be inherited, as well as caught.
-Tigers tend not to announce they are infected and entire families may stay in "the closet." Tigers have forced their clan members to marry other clan members, sometimes to keep the strain amongst themselves. Most have arranged marriages; they have been known to abduct known tigers, if an arranged marriage cannot be done.
“Apparently, it’s the duty of every good little weretiger to make more little weretigers. Every woman is expected to have at least one child, and two is preferable.”
“If you’re with child, he’s honor-bound to marry you and bring you and the child into his clan.”
-Tigers are the only lycanthrope group who has discovered a way to have children naturally. One or two other tiger males, take the beast from a pregnant female tiger at the moments she needs to shift so that she can carry the baby full term.
-Tigers who are natural born show signs of such at birth. They have eye color and hair color that matches their tiger color. They don’t usually shift until puberty, but there have been cases where they shifted as early as nine. It is the feline eyes that mark a tiger as being pure and closer to natural born.
-They are also a matriarchal (led by a woman/queen) society, unlike most of the other lycanthrope societies which are patriarchal (Led by a male/king)
Chang's Call
-A Chang’s call is a metaphysical sound that calls out from the Chang to all unmated males within a few miles of the Chang.
-All unattached males will answer this call by simply dropping whatever it is they were doing and catch the first plane, bus, train etc to come to the Chang. Only the strongest dominant queens can keep their unmated tigers from leaving to answer the call.
Then I felt it. A sound, a call, a smell, a feeling, and yet that wasn’t it either. It was all those things, none of those things. The tigers that I could see in my mind’s eye is like some sort of waking nightmare stood still. They raised their faces to the air, and roared. The sound of it bowed my spine, sent me to the floor, screaming. It was as if my body were some great bell, and their sound had struck a chord in me. I heard that sound not with my ears, but with my skin, like a silent tuning fork pressed against the spine to vibrate its message along every nerve ending. –Blood Noir Pg. 248
Distress Call (Chang ability)
The white tiger in my head snarled and paced before the steel wall. She bared those glistening fangs and roared at me. The sound reverberated along my spine as if she’d turned me into some human-sized tuning fork. […]
“You are calling for air. It’s a distress call…” –Blood Noir Pg 277
