Nathyn opened his door and blinked as a soggy note was stuck rather ackwardly to the wood. The rainshower of the night before had smudged it up badly. He squinting bending down to eye it head one. Whomever posted it was shorter than he, but that ranked many in this human town. He rubbed the back of his head and tried his best to make out words. "Nathyn, knocked..... note.... you.... cheesy fries.... take care.... keep promise and not lie.... try again... apologize.... meet. Nama... Mar.." He grumbled not realyl getting much at all out of his first trial for scaning. ut enough to deduce SOME things. "Woman.... tuck note UNDER door next time. He sighed and went back inside for a pallet knife to scrape the note from his door.
Nathyn stood there his door half open as he scraped away at the remnants of note. occasionally a person walked by and stopped and gawked at him. Those few who did were met with a sneer or a flung note crud at them. This of coruse caused outrage. "What? You can't expect to stare and not get reprimanded. it's my house! my door." He grumbled on about how irritable people were. Were it not for his young look one would swear he sounded like some crabby old man. Once done he shut the door and moved about for his phone and a phone book of Wood Bourne. He flipped about the pages and eventually gave up, stepping back outside to squint and try and read the diner name from afar, then looked in the phonebook for a number that he dialed and paced in his patient impatience for someone to pick up.
Marit Meili had settled down in one of the diner booths again and started shuffling her deck of cards. The opening of the other restaurant and bar had caused a maked decline in business. Oh , she was sure that they would be back. afterall everyone came back for those good old fashioned home cooked meals like mom used to make. If mom was a surly sort order cook named Frank . She started laying out the cards and glanced out the window to see if it would rain again tonight. It was so quiet the sudden ringing of the phone made her jump and look at it with wide eyes till she laughed and stood to go answer it " Red Diner Cafe, how can I help you ?"
"Woman, tuck the note UNDER the door next time." He began flatly, breathing out his annoyance of the scraping of note from the door. "And don't use that crap you write on at the diner, its not even made of natural materials." He snorted and leaned on the staircase. "Now have a good shift." and he hung up. He said his peace in the matter.
Marit Meili had started to smile a bit at the voice on the phone and then blinked a few times at what he said . When the phone was hung up she harumphed and stared at the receiver for a moment before hanging up herself and turning to Frank ," I need to go have words with someone Frank. Give me an order of the cheesyfries to go . " It only took a few minutes before she wandered out of the diner with a bag in hand and narrowed eyes as she approached that door to knock.
Nathyn pulled back a curtain to the knocking and cracked the window enough for his voice to carry outside. "You shouldn't be off yet, go back and do your job, Woman!" He would smile if he still was not portraying the cranky old man vibe he had going.
Marit rested hand on her hip and held up the bag to slightly wave it at him ," I guess I could jsut throw these fresh hot cheesyfries away again. I was sitting at work playing solitaire. I think that Frank and Florence can handle the lack of business jsut fine . Not like I am going to get fired. So..do you want these or not?
Nathyn opened the window more and extended his hand, the palm exposed. He wiggled his fingers in the 'place bag here' manner. "I suppose since you walked all this way, wasting the good owners money so you can fraternize outside your job while on its.. clock? I think that is how it is said these days."
Marit frowned a little at the outstretched hand," I'm not on the clock. I don't really get paid there.. Room and board I suppose though and tips . I don't suppose you would let me talk to you while you ate so I can apologise for the way I was acting before?
Nathyn sighed, " Don't frown at me. there is a scratch on me door where a ntoe used to be. Looking at it annoys me so for now I will have to paint it. I was going to make you buy the paints, but since you're broke, You probably need every last penny you have for your... girly habits." He cleared his throat and straightened his extended hand. "Now..... Cheesy fries, please. ou may speak out there."
Marit brow furrowed a bit as she blinked and ignoring his hand outstretched she stepped closer to the door to squint at it" Scratch ? On this old wood? I think you would be better of sanding and staining the wood rather than choking it up with paint. Afterall the reason the note was on the door was that it was too tight a fit to slide under it . Good for keeping the city air out..bad for notes" she lifted her free hand to rub at the door," I didn't scratch it anyway .
“No it is because you put that crap for paper o nthe door it got scratched up, and the old look of it is ruined thanks to that!" He scoffed and ducked back into his apartment, muttering loudly about artist's eyes and hers being bad. He popped back out a moment later and leaned out the window agin, reaching a long arm out to jab at her arm with this palet knife. "Now hand over those cheesy fries before i stab you in the eye."
Marit snorted as she took a step back from the door ," It was a small piece of paper.. another rain would have washed it away entirely . you are the one that used metal on soft wood " and then she turned to look at him as he threatened her with that piece of metal and she laughed at that," My dear NAthyn. you are hardly within reach to do such and.. is incarceration worth one serving of chili cheese fries?
"yes." his reply came quickly and with his usual confidence. "do not undersestimate my ability for things you cannot know if I can and cannot do." He waggled the Pallet knife after her. "Before I send you off with MY cheest fries, did you not have an apology for me?"
Marit started to fold her arms but was hampered by the bag and so..she set it down near her feet," I am not much in the way of offering apologies at knife point. Even if I did find my ... hormonal reaction to you to be rather overdone . So I'm sorry I was only lusting after you? Now ..will you put the knife away then I will give you the fries.
Nathyn threw the knife over his shoulder. It didn't even make a clatter in the room. He sticking both hands out the window, he wiggle free fingers and held his hand out to her. "There. Apology accepted, and pallet knife discard. However next cycle you will be doing the same thing. It is your nature, but I forgive that too."
Marit managed a faint blush at his words as she took them for a more mundane meaning and finally offered a small smile of her own before she lifted that bag and move over to put it in his hands," how generous of you to forgive me for being a woman . And I shall do my best to not show me thinking...hormonally about you or anyone else. its not worth it. I certainly dont know you well enough to think of you that way . So" she traield off not certain what else to say at that point and finallyjsut shrugged a bit" enjoy the fries, Nathyn.
"thank you." he took the fries and walked her walked away. "For what its worth, I may not be interested in mating, but your breasts are quite spectacular!" He did really call that out after her....
Marit stiffened and with a blink looked back at him in his window with his fries . She seemed to consider a moment then lkooked down at her own chest and ran hands along them as if fluffing them up beofe she grinend back at him , " Too bad you are not intersted. Never know how they really are " she waggled fingers at him
Nathyn shrugged, " They bounce and move with your body as you walk. That's natural. SIlicone couldn't do that. its bad for your body anyway. Now only if you could do the same switch with your paper!" He waggled one eyebrow and slid back inside his apartment, closing the windows behind him for quality chili cheese fries time.
Marit snorted and took out her order pad eyeing it somewhat quizically as she walked away," looks like paper to me . Not sure what else it would be" she did have the faintest lift to he step as she walked maybe a touch more bounce to her walk and yet a hint of blush to her cheek as she headed downt he street
