Terra wound about happily through the trees and the sunlit fresh air of the forest, her heart singing in relief from the oppressive smog and darkness of the urban landscape that stood only a yards away. So lost in her reverie, she almost didn't notice it as she passed it. She stopped in her run, pausing and turning back towards the sound of falling water, inhaling deep and quick through her nose. Closer… towards the base of one of the great trees… closer… she couldn't contain her cry of excitement as she saw the fox curled inside of the log. This of course woke him with a start, and he nearly ran until he stopped, giving her a few good sniffs over.
His lips curled up showing his teeth as be began to growl and let out short, puffing hisses, territorially, advancing stiffly towards her. She immediately hunched down, licking her lips and nose repeatedly, to show she didn't want any trouble. He growled all the same, and snapped at her. She held her ground, and finally spoke low, though to one who wasn't a fox, it would only be a series of low alien sounding whines and halting cackles, "Brother, I only wish to speak with you." His ears swiveled forward, though his shoulders remained square, his hackles raised, "No sister of mine walks on two legs."
Terra winced, and murmured urgently, "Its only to find out what has happened to you, brother… you already know I am not truly human." she pleaded. He silently glared at her, before he sat stiffly down. She licked her lips and nose once more, "The ancestors have been calling brother… why have you not answered them."
The fox gained an odd quizzical look, "Come again?"
"Your ancestral spirits, brother!" she bared her own teeth and snapped them angrily, "Do not tell me you forget where you come from!"
His own teeth showed once more, and he drove forward with a loud raking scream at her, "You've got one hell of a mouth for being on another's land!" She immediately scrambled backwards, but he drove forward once again, "Be OFF with you, HALFLING!"
She turned and broke into a full run, until she was well away from the fox. She bit her lip in frustration for a brief moment, but squared her shoulders, "It just means they've forgotten… it would explain why…" she assured herself, before she turned back with one stubborn scream that would echo through the woods like spirit's cry, "And I am NOT A HALFLING!" and with that she squared her shoulders and walked with her chin high with a huff.
